In most cases, no. Under Irish planning regulations, garden structures are exempt from planning permission provided the total floor area of all outbuildings does not exceed 25 square metres, at least 25 square metres of garden remains unbuilt, and the structure does not exceed approximately 3 metres in height. If your garden already has a large shed or outbuilding, check with your local planning authority before ordering. We advise customers on this regularly — it comes up in almost every consultation.

Your sauna needs a stable, level base. The most common options are screw pile foundations (our recommendation — no digging, installed in hours), a concrete slab, concrete point foundations, or a timber base. The standard Harvia M90 electric stove runs on 230V single-phase power — the standard Irish domestic supply. However, it requires a dedicated circuit installed by a certified electrician. It cannot be plugged into a standard socket. We strongly recommend arranging your electrician before the delivery date so the connection can be made on installation day. We can recommend local electricians if you need one.

With the Harvia M90, your sauna will reach 75–90°C in 30–45 minutes. The barrel shape promotes efficient convection that keeps heat even throughout the space. The wood-burning Harvia M2 upgrade takes a similar time but delivers a softer, more atmospheric heat.

Absolutely. Both pinewood and thermowood are engineered for year-round outdoor use in wet, cold, and variable climates. The bitumen shingle roof provides full weatherproofing. Most of our customers use their saunas most heavily in autumn and winter — the experience of stepping into a hot sauna when it's cold outside is the whole point.

Pinewood has a moisture content below 16% and performs excellently in outdoor conditions with occasional maintenance. Thermowood is thermally modified pinewood — heated to 185–215°C, reducing moisture content to below 7%, dramatically improving dimensional stability and weather resistance. Thermowood requires less maintenance, lasts longer, and has a distinctly darker, more premium appearance. See our full guide at [Wood Types →].

Curbside delivery to your property is always included. Professional on-site installation, HIAB crane placement, and foundation work are available as additional services. DIY flatpack assembly is also an option — it takes two people approximately two days and full instructions are included. During your confirmation call, we'll discuss which option suits your situation.

Barrel saunas are low maintenance. After each use, leave the door open for 20–30 minutes to ventilate and dry. Never seal or varnish the interior. Apply a suitable outdoor timber treatment to the exterior every 1–2 years for pinewood, less frequently for thermowood. Check the stainless hoops annually. Replace sauna stones after 2–3 years of regular use. Full care guide included with every sauna.

Yes. The Harvia M2 wood-burning stove upgrade is available at checkout. It includes the full chimney system, rain cover, and fireproof installation plates. No electricity is required to heat the sauna with this option. Note: if you also add a full panoramic window, you'll need the protective cage (also available as an add-on).
